Hello Everyone! I have a question: I have two KDX200s and one has nice even power through the power band. The one I just bought feels a little boggy and then *!BAM!* there is hit of power that throws me back. That will throw me to my butt off the bike when I go out to ride. Any idea on how to even it out at all? The previous owner did the KX fork upgrade and I am betting that there are motor mods as well.
It has a Burly pipe and aftermarket silencer.
Thoughts?

I'll have to check that. I never knew what that was for but now that I research it a bit that sounds like it could be an answer. Or....I have to work out more. Thanks for the suggestion!

KDX200 - Hard Power Hit!
took off the cover for the power valve. Started bike and revved it up. The gear wiggled a little in time with the engine spinning up but it never rotated. Houston, we have a problem. Thanks for the insight!

Re: KDX200 - Hard Power Hit!
FYI, the kips opens all at once around 6000 rpm.
If not, it is likely the pin at the bottom of the activation shaft down inside the side cover.
Pretty common problem.
Keep in mind that the nut on top of that shaft is left-handed thread when you take it apart.
The way that you describe the hit, It also might be that the kips is stuck open.

Re: KDX200 - Hard Power Hit!
I took of the pipe and looked and the KIPS valve was open. I took off the nut that was holding the the little toothed semi-gear that interfaces at the end of the activation shaft. I wiggled it with a pliers and found that it was not loose to move. After a while I got it to move through the range of motion. I figured out that the activator was installed in the incorrect position - with the KIPS being full open at idle, and just pushing agains the range of motion when revved up. I fixed that and it is mostly fluid.
Any reason anyone would do that on purpose? It's not entirely smooth - it fully retracts upon rev but doesn't smoothly go all the way back as of now. Any reason to think it would free up? It is all still intact so I'm thinking it could be just gummed up and needing some run time. Thanks everyone for your responses!
