Slipping Starter

Post by seniorsehas »

I've seen tons of posts on the issue of the starter not catching. I haven't come across one that actually solved the problem. I've taken the case off and the gears and spring all seems fine.

I've heard everything from oil type to completely overhauling everything and both options have had people saying it "kinda worked"

Has anyone here actually fixed their KDX when it was slipping when you're stomping on the starter? If I' go real easy on it it grabs but it's a delicate and annoying process.

For the KDXs it's a fairly well documented issue with the teeth on the starter ratchet gear (p/n 13078-1063) and the teeth on the kickstarter spur gear (p/n 59051-1224) being worn down, or the ratchet spring (p/n 92081-122) being worn or broken. Part numbers given are good for E, H and 220 bikes

Those part numbers brought up a parts diagram that makes my problem make perfect sense. Thanks for the help on this!
