Re: Rear Disc Cover
repacking your silencer and proper jetting will stop the drip

Everything is stock except power reeds and jetting, I try to drain the silencer chamber regularly to keep it down. It's jetted as lean as safe and run well, no major loading up. Guess it's just part of riding tight trails.
The brake gets grabby after a while and turns to a light switch when hot, not good on steep downhills. Its better after cleaning but the drips keep coming.

Use non ethanol fuel if at all possible.

Easier said than done! lol I found a marina kind of near me that sold it. They would only sell it marina members, or people that pulled in on the water with their boat. I just wanted to give them money for the product they were selling...don't know what the big deal was?
Also, I'd still consider repacking that silencer. Once that fiberglass packing is old enough and gets enough gunk in it, it doesn't really do too much. I did it for my first time this past summer. Cost less than 20 bucks and only took about a half an hour.

Re: Rear Disc Cover
If your brakes are getting touchy once they are "warmed up" then you need to, first and right away, change your brake fluid.....and make sure you are using the right stuff. You may also want to look at rebuilding your caliper.
Keep yourself safe and get those brakes done!

I try to use non ethanol when possible, It doesn't seem to make a difference though. When running Maxima 927 there was considerably less spooge, but i didn't feel it protected as well as HP2. Bike doesn't use any gearbox oil either. I had 3 other KDX's and seem to remember them doing the same just not as much. Guess I was younger and held it WFO back then.
Fluid was replaced a year ago with Honda Dot 4 . The calipers should be good just installed the third rear tire so low miles. I'm running the stock silencer so not packing to replace just open the drain bolt and let it flow.
My RV trailer had the same situation when the grease seal leaked all over the drum/pads. It was grabby when hot but went away once the whole assembly was replaced.

Re: Rear Disc Cover
if you're dripping that much oil that you're contaminating your rear rotor, I would suggest you take another shot at jetting.

A 40 pilots seems pretty lean. Stock is 48, and, its all stock just power reeds. Maybe the needle, it had a lean mid-bog when adding the power reeds, Cured by raising it to middle notch and upping the main to 155. That's where I feel its safe.
