How different is an 86 aircooled kdx to an e series kdx?
I own a 91 kdx and love it but at the moment there is an aircooled kdx for sale on the internet for 1000euros, first owner, very good condition, completely original....
But is it as good or the same fun as the e series?
And are there weak points as the e series got with the valves?

Did you just come on kdxrider.net and ask if you should buy a KDX?
But seriously, some parts have long been discontinued and are hard to find. It is not as good, as far as competitive. It is a touch down on power. Brakes are worse.
On the plus side, I have never seen anyone post on here about the water pump seals leaking
... or the steel power valves having the wear issues of the "E" aluminum.
The weak area would be the flywheel design. It has been touched on at times in the forums.

I am not new on the forum
I just wanted to know if a 86 kdx is worth the money and is it as fun as the e series?
E series prices and this aircooled kdx are simular here in belgium

If you are looking to race in vintage events then maybe. But difficult to source parts for, as mentioned brakes are a step back, suspension is a step back, power is down. Plus side no liquid cooling, no radiators, no water pump and everyone staring at the guy on the ancient bike
But, as Jason said, wrong place to ask that question, of course you buy a KDX lol

I did not think you were new to the forums.
It is a fun bike, but it is a previous generation. It was made for three years, and the "E" was made for six.

If I'm not mistaken, the C series (86-88) are lighter than e series. Parts are harder to find, but not impossible. I've been told that C series can't qualify for AHRMA because it has power valve. The one main failed point, flywheel, is fairly easily resolved by doing the stator mod / flywheel swap. There is absolutely nothing at all to be gained by keeping the original flywheel. Otherwise very reliable fun bikes.

There is a very nice article in the December, 2016 issue of Dirt Bike magazine on rebuilding a 1988 air cooled KDX 200.
Of course,this was done here in the USA. How you would fare in Belgium with such a project could be a different story.
