Oil seal leak ... Gear change shaft.

Post by Desertbootguy »

Hello.
I have a gear shift shaft oil leak on my 200-E1. Do you think it's possible to remove the seal and replace it without splitting open the engine ?
Thank you very much for the advice.

It shouldn't be too difficult to remove ...
You can either gently tap a sharp flathead screwdriver between the outer seal collar & the engine case & prize the seal off .... Or screw in x2 small self tapping screws into the metal collar & pull / work the seal off the gear shaft ....

When fitting the new oil seal make sure the gear shaft is clean of dirt & rust .... Apply some grease around the lip of the new seal before installing .

I learned the hard way that it is so much better to just get the $5 seal puller from harbor freight. It's a thin pry tool. I spent two hours trying to do the screwdriver / screw thing without gouging the countershaft. It didn't work. I then got the tool and was done in less than 5 min.

I tried to delete that comment. I mistakenly thought you meant the countershaft, not the shifter shaft. I have no experience with the shaft you are trying to change.

It;'s exactly like this one. This is in UK. I'm not saying it will work. But maybe somebody can chime in.

Great ! I'll get one of these. For once I'll forget my policy of not ordering from Amazon. Thanks again for answering and helping.
