Clutch Springs

I seem to remember a suggestion that we run KX 500 clutch springs when the bike is modded past stock power. Is this the case or is my memory failing me?

I don't recall, myself.

I never had problems with the oem springs. I'm not a huge clutch-fanner, true..but the oems always hooked up fine.

I'm running some aftermarket spring now...with Vesrah plates (xr style from frp). Those plates have a LOT more friction area than oem. I'd expect them to hook up better than the oem friction plates even with the oem springs.

I'm not a big fan of the Vesrah plates, though. Bunch of squawking going on down there on a regular basis. But then, I'm leaning on the clutch more than I used to, too!

I gotta beat up that basket so I kin get a new Hinson!!

I've been looking an Hinsons too. I guess/hope it will be awhile before my stock basket gives up. I've been looking at those new Wiseco baskets too but I'm a bit worried the inserts might come out of it. That would be an ugly day.

I'm sure I'm the last person to ever find stuff like this out....but...

Buy a Hinson basket and you won't get what you need to put it in your bike. You get a basket alright, but there is still the issue of the gear that makes it go.

I've heard some questions regarding mounting methods, isolaters to use and such. When I get a new basket (it's only a matter of time) I'll just call Ron (RB-Designs) and have him put together something that will bolt in/on.

At least it's my understanding he does baskets. Configures them to a 'ready to go' mode.

Uhhh, are you saying the Hinson basket is not bolt on and go? If so, that sounds pretty dumb to me.

Lot'sa things are dumb.

It is not 'bolt on and go'.

They are $230 from Hinson. RMtn doesn't list a kdx version, but kx is about $200.

Look at the pictures on RMtn's site...note what's missing on the back of the thing that is NOT missing on the complete piece as illustrated in buykawi.com

I am glad you brought that to my (our) attention. Not that I even own a H model 200 or a 220, but I always like to learn about any KDX.

I think I know what you are talking about on the gear part. I think an '87 has the gear already on the bck of it.

Thanks.

You would think that paying that kind of money would get you a part that bolts on and is ready to go. Gee and I thought Harley hop up stuff was a pain.
