Tire question

Post by Ryan »

hi, im looking to find a front tire for my honda xl. I will be doing some on road driving and some offroad. Probably about 50/50. I called up my local dealer and they said they could get me a michelin s12 for $60. I think this is a good deal cause denniskirk.com wants $75. Also would this tire work ok for onroad stuff or just offroad? thanks

The S12 is not a DOT approved onroad tire from what I recall. Don't know if thats an important consideration where you live or not. The Kenda Trackmaster II's are DOT approved for on/off road use and work pretty darn well in the dirt. They also wear like iron.

That S12 will be worn out quickly from braking alone. I know; I ruined one in only a couple of hours practicing stoppies on the road in front of my house.
Go DOT as recommended to be legal. If you were ever involved in an accident, just having illegal tires could get the other out of responsibility due to the technicality.

As soon as the front MT 21 wears out on my DR I've got a Pirelli Scorpion Pro to spoon on. It's DOT but looks like it will be better offroad
