DIY CDI
Well---the bike's is now running like a champ with a '94 ebay CDI installed at $29.99 including shipping! Such a deal. Some of you may have checked the diy cdi saga at the other site. Update----my design did not work 100% correctly and burned up after a couple hours riding. Please don't follow my directions on the rebuild unless you are willing to experiment w/a few values. Without rehashing everything here, I'm fairly certain that the main culprits in my rebuild failure are as follows. The diode that handles the dump current from the SCR/large yellow capacitor needs to be beefed up consderably---maybe 4-6 amp 1000v minimum. The diode that handles the timing circuit---in series with the 33 ohm resistor---needs to be a switching diode with a value of 50-100 milliamps and around 100v. Will let everyone know when it's figured out. Cheers!
