Same old question

Post by Grayhorse »

I just installed a new piston and rings as well as Rbs mod to my carb, what gas/oil ratio do you think I should go with?
Also is there a break in period on the new top end or can I just go nuts right away?

Thanks guys

ps Ilike to use Motul fully synthetic oil

32:1 for break-in and whatever you want afterwards depending on the oil. You should run the top end thru several heat cycle's. The shop manual should outline the procedure pretty well.

RE: Breaking in...

It depends on who you listen too. I did the way recommended in the manual.

Run time and heat cycles I agree with. But IMO also do not baby or lug the engine. I take it easy during the first heat cycle 2-3 gear with light loading. Second heat cycle 2-5 gear with moderate hard loading for several short intervals. Third heat cycle hard engine loading in 2-5 gears for approximate 15 second intervals 2-3 minute intervals with light loading (cooling) between hard engine loading pulls. Never have had a problem and rings do not show blow-by at 1000 - 1400 mile yearly intervals.

After third heat cycle I do not like to lug or chug the engine until a tank of gas has been run through it. Otherwise - run it like you normally would - that is my advice.

Good luck and have fun.
