Swapping front brake master cylinder KDX200 2001

Post by minined »

Hey Guy's,
My son ran his first Enduro this weekend. Pretty successful with the exception of breaking the front brake lever. Would like to put a KX250 front brake master cylinder on to keep all of the brake switches etc intact for road use. Quetion is, what model KX master cylinder do we use? Son's bike is a 2001 KDX200. We live in outback Western Australia, so need pretty exact information as we need to purchase by mail!
Thanks in advance!

Never seen a KX with a brake light switch. The KX is a closed course race bike. KLX would be the dual sport. That being said, front master cylinders are pretty much interchangeable. The main difference being the size of the cylinder, 12mm, 14mm, etc. I have replace a 12mm with a 14mm and got a much improved lever feel out of it. There are also aftermarket master cylinders available for a pretty good price.

If your concern is a front brake stop light switch, there are hydraulic switches that can be used with the stock KDX, or any hydraulic front brake lever and master cylinder assembly.

The one I am using consists of a longer (1/4"?) banjo bolt and hydraulic switch with attached leads. I believe these were originally designed to sense engine oil pressure, but work perfectly for a hydraulic brake light switch.
