Shark Fin?

Post by chippy »

So is the Devol rear brake guard the only one that fits a 2006 KDX200?
I ride a lot of rocks and would really like some protection at the rotor. Surely there are others that would fit. (Scott's, MSR, Moose, etc.)
Any input?

Scott's makes one go to their site that's the only place I've found the kdx version.

OK, here is something to think about......With the H series bikes, you MUST buy the whole brake carrier/fin combo. These are generally one piece and pricey.
Another option is to get an E series brake carrier and a bolt on shark fin. The E series carrier has the ability to bolt on a shark fin. This can be a much cheaper option, depending on how much you spend on the carrier.

Shark Fin?

+1. My 200 came with a Devol rear rotor guard. My Devon guard is really only a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum plate stamped to shape. It is only supported by the axle; no other mounting. It was cracked about half way, front to back.

I reinforced it with extra 1/8" aluminum washers I machined up and secured it with flat head ss screws and epoxy, then adjusting the axle spacer lengths to suit.

IMO, the Scotts fin shown is a much better way to go.

Took a better picture this weekend to show how thick the guard is.

Nice pic, thanks. IMO, it's worth it if you're concerned about preventing a bent rear rotor.
