KDX 220 Gear Oil/Crankcase

Post by revin9 »

Can someone tell me what the best oil to use is? I bought Belray gear saver 80w-90 but after review it says not recomended for wet clutches which the KDX is.. I'm afraid that's it's too heavy of a weight also.

The bel-ray will work fine. 80/90w gear oil in general will be fine in the gearbox. Many of us just use ATF. It works great for a wet clutch. There is no crankcase oil, being a 2 stroke. The trans and crankcase are sealed from each other.

I use Rotella oil in mine. it is safe for wet clutches, cheap and I can get it anywhere.

Yeah I've always wondered that too, Kawasaki reccomends 10w40 in the manual, but my local shop just uses 85w.

if you buy oil make sure it says JASO MA on the back which means it is safe for wet clutches. I also run rotella in my liquid cooled street bike but not on my air cooled bike it is not thick enough.
