95 kdx200 won't start!

Post by cooksto1 »

I got a 95 kdx200 on a trade, ran great when i test drove it and ran great the next day. I dumped it and the clutch cable frayed so I parked it and waited for a new one. Replaced the cable and went to start her up and nothing. I checked the ignition coil and it was junk so i ordered a new one, just put it on and still won't start. Any help would be useful

Is it getting any spark. I would clean and check all grounds. And unhook kill switch.

It's got spark and I've unhooked the killswitch. Really has me stumped

Did you start it after dumping it or did you just push it back?

Started it and rode until I noticed the frayed cable, maybe 5 minutes. I didn't even dump it hard, i was just putting around

compression test = you want 140psi or greater
fuel test = you want a smooth flow through the carb if/when you lean the bike over
spark test = you want a FAT BLUE spark
timing test = make sure the flywheel key (on the shaft) is not sheared. if it were, you would still get a nice spark, but the timing would be off, and it may not run at all. this is unlikely, but possible. i would be on fueling or bad plug wire. both easily fixed.

What could be the likely cause of weak spark? Replaced the ignition coil and I'm not really sure what else it could be other than a bad stator

any spark is enough to start it.
it was running and you dumped it. probably flooded. maybe even have gas in the crankcase.
