Recently bought, fixeed major issues, now questions, niggles

Ok, fixed the top end, kips, rebuilt shock, and did RB carb work on my 1990 plated kdx.
Runs well, so well, I I'll probably sell my xr280. The kdx has great trail torque now, decent power for weight.
Now ergos and comfort need be fixed and some questions, ..

1. Seat foam .. Appears stock, for someone much lighter. What do you guys recommend, is there a type a little firmer I can put on and recover? Seat is last part of suspension b4 shock going into my back,
2. Where can I get a skid plate? What do you guys do to protect your expansion chamber pipes? Worried about hitting on a rock.
3. Appears I'm getting 32 to 34 mpg in the pst two rides, about right?
4. Plugs, my friend who has a yz250 thought the 8 series plug was too cold and leads to fouling, any other suggestions?
5. Hill climbs. Gonna need practice, hold throttle open, manage speed by clutch slip? No xr 280, xr600

1. Ceet makes a firm but comfortable seat foam.
2. Scotts offers a standard aluminum plate.
3. Not bad at all. Could be better if you get the jetting spot on.
4. The BR8ES works perfectly in the KDX. If your fouling plugs then something else is the problem.
5. Yes, the clutch is your friend on a 2T. However, the KDX can climb anything an XR can.

34 mpg is pretty nice, I'm anxiously awaiting that for mine.

the kdx will lug very low on hill climbs, so unless i ve screwed up the process, I don't need the clutch at all.

Thanks, sounds like I should plan for 30 mpg or less? Bike is ok, little ruff in places, if I fall in love I will probably powder coat and do a bottom end tear down as well. So far, it's my 2 stroke experiment, you know? I've been a 4 stroke big bike guy until recently, my xr280 was a revelation in trails, and this seems even better. One of my buddies pointed out the safety of light bikes..

Skid plates and pipe guards are readily available on RMATV and E-Bay, I've even found them on Amazon.
You say that's a 90, but it looks like a 93/94.....

Thanks, will check out rmatv. The bike is a 1990, kind of an odd duck.story on this one is it belonged to a dealer here in CA. The dealer brought it over as a demo bike from Japan. It has street legal stuff on it and kx125 or some such forks. . The Vin number doesn't match a typical CA 2 stroke off roader, it's older and so the chance of a plate pull back is slimmer. .so I hope. If I can get 70, 80 miles on a tank I'll be very pleased .

Just wondering if it is a SR model. Does it have a metal tank?

It does not have a metal tank or a real speedo, tho the trip meter is in kilometers. My understanding is this was brought over for feedback on improvements which you saw on later models.

I got plans for it to practice my rock work, snotty hills, trials like stuff with. On longer trips I usually ride a xr600 or other large bike. This will do nice for shorter challenging stuff.
