Air filter Question.

Post by mwoj »

So my bike (1985 kdx 200) didn't come with an air filter...no bueno. I have the whole air filter assembly apart for cleaning, and seeing if i am missing anything. I am, but nothing to serious. I was looking for air filters, and have found three different ones.
These are them. I am liking the $18 one lol.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNI-AIR-FILTER- ... -Q&vxp=mtr

But....how do they attach to the bike? The red UNI filter looks like it has two posts that slid onto the threads in the air filter housing. The Moose air filter seems like it is very flimsy. I looked online and saw that newer bikes have like a backing/subframe for air filters. Like a support. i looked for the parts diagram for my bike and didn't see one. however, it makes no sense that these air filters are infact compatible with my bike. Especially the Moose one. The housing has the two threaded studs for wing nuts, but does the air filter just slide on and bolt down? Or did it originally come with the plastic backing/support. Or do these air filters have them built in? Can someone please explain?

I'm sure there is supposed to be a plastic cage that goes inside the filter element to keep its shape, but it doesn't show in the parts diagrams. I have an "84 I can try to get a photo and post it.

That would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks.

I just looked at the parts diagram and didn't see any filter frame so it must be incorporated into the stock filter (#11013).
If that's not available then you'll have to make your own. I once pieced together my own air filter by silicone sealing foam sections together. It stayed together as long as I didn't use gasoline to clean it (just soap and water).
