recommended do's and don'ts when riding a KDX200 ?
I'm a novice rider with a 2001 KDX200.
I recently read that it's best not to use engine braking on a 2 stroke,
but instead pull the clutch and use the brakes.
Also, I sometimes lug the engine when I'm trail riding. Is this okay, or should I always try to
keep the RPMs up?
I'm trying to learn what I can do to help prevent damage to the bike.
Are there any other suggestions for do's and don'ts when riding a KDX200?

I'm in my 50's been using engine braking forever, so go for it. if you have been riding a 4 stroke you'll notice a big difference in engine braking. As far as lugging you can do that till it stalls and then you'll know how far you can lug it, the kdx lugs pretty good. It's also good to wring it out every once in a while, blow the cobs out you know. I try to stay away from supercross tracks with the kdx . Actually I stay away from them with any bike.

Unless heavily modified the KDX is not too good at high speed bumps or at landing from big jumps.

Use a quality pre mix and change the gearbox oil frequently. Ride it like you stole it. Don't worry too much about lugging it or engine braking, it won't have much anyway. The KDX is pretty robust. Do have fun.

Do: Let it warm up. (Which is a good idea for any bike.)

if you want to learn how to ride that bike, take the seat off and run the trails that way
that will teach you how to control it much better

From my experience, the kdx tends to land big jumps much like a cinder block does. So avoid that if you can. Otherwise just ride it and keep the oil clean. You will have better luck leaving the clutch out as much as possible. And yes, have fun you can't hurt it.

Thank you, rbates9 and everyone else who responded. Looks like I was overthinking things again.
Glad to hear I can just ride, change the oil, and have fun on my bike.

That might be the best advice on here. I regretted selling my last one so much I don't think I can ever sell this one.Sullyfam wrote:Do ride it like you stole it...
