Hi all I have a 91 kdx 250 in need of full reco the frame # JKADXME15MA....... engine # DX250DE.......
I bought an after market long range tank for it advertised as suiting 92 KX 250 IMS make model KX-14 (92-93 KX 125 and 250 models part # 113119 and well sure enough it dose not fit. The lower center of the tank touches the top of the carby and dose not look like the seat will line up with the tank either. I have the offer of a 92 kdx 250 with decent plastics, frame and engine. engine # DX250FE.....


My questions are
1; Do the 92 KDX and 92 KX use the same frame and seat?
2; Does the engine numbers match the years 91(DE) 92(FE)?
3; Do the 91 and 92 have the same frame?

If it wont suit the KDX Id rather keep the tank and save it for a rainy day, a KX will come up one day.

The KDX250 and KX250 frame, plastic, and seats share nothing in common.

All 91-94 KDX250 model years are largely the same bike.

Thanks, been image surfing and looks like the kdx has round tubing were th kx has square under the tank. Also I read that there is different Reed blocks to lower the carbs... cheers

Tankwise, KDX250 and KX250 won't match up, no matter which years.

A KDX250F may be the SR version with a metal tank. Check to be sure, as you are in Australia and we only got a "D" version, which is off-road only.

Thanks I'll check that out. Pretty sure all Aussie kdx's of that era had metal tanks and full road rego from new. Mine is rusty inside and will need replacing anyway. I'll keep hunting, something will come up. Cheers

Can you return the tank?

IMS does, in fact, make an oversized 91-94 KDX250 (And KDX250 SR) tank; It is different from their KX tank. The model is KSR-1.

Good idea but I bought it off flea bay as new old stock from a parts shop a while ago. Cheers

I don't know if it's available in Australia but Evapo-Rust will clean the tank out perfectly.

The Kreem product line is also something I have used successfully on rusty metal tanks.
