Your plates may very well need to be replaced, but I doubt that they caused that problem.sammydogjj wrote: I was riding it yesterday and went to switch gears, and it felt like the clutch cable had snapped. The lever was really loose and didn't feel like it was even pulling the cable.
You guys think I need a new set of clutch plates or what?
Pull the clutch cover off and see if you can wiggle the friction plates around. Are they held tight together or can you move them a little?

Worn frictions would slip gradually over time, not instantly.

Check that the center nut is tight.
RMATV sells Tusk clutch kits (plates and steels) for about $65, if you need them.

Switch oils.....I'm using type "F" trans fluid in all 3 KDXs right now, it works great. I do notice that the bikes like different types of oil/gear oil, but the type F works well in all 3 bikes.

Before you order anything, pull it apart and find out what caused the feeling like the clutch cable snapping. Like I said, worn frictions wouldn't have caused that. Something either broke, loosened or got misaligned for that type of problem.
Then measure your frictions to see if they are out of specs.
I agree on the Type F. Readily available and cheap as well.

Also....basics, basics, basics...Did you check to see if the cable is fraying?

I would take the cable completely off and look at what you can see at both ends.sammydogjj wrote:Where could I check for cable fraying/how and at which end (if not both, sorry this is my first kdx, and my old dirtbike had a different clutch cable from this one.)
But it sounds like after you adjusted the cable and took out the slack, the clutch still wasn't working. Is that correct?
Aside from something breaking, I have an idea of what might have happened. But you have to get the cover off and see if the frictions are held firmly in place or moving around.

After I took it to the mechanic back in the summer, he gave me some of this. http://www.chaparral-racing.com/product ... oCrYXw_wcB
The type F you are referring is much cheaper, so if that works better, then I am happy, haha!
