For those who have done this, would it gain enough to drop a few teeth on the rear sprocket to lenghten each gear and still have the same power as before. Currently 13/48 rb head and carb. 04 hybrid 200

I can't comment on the EG225 as I made my own 220 by porting and boring out a 200 to 220. Have the same RB stuff to suit plus a few tricks of my own etc.
If your package ends up being anything like mine then I would say it's a must. You end up with more of everything and it's more instant so spacing it out more is a must.

It's best not to go lower than 13 teeth on the counter shaft sprocket. Fewer teeth will cause increased sprocket and chain wear and power consumption due to the increased movement each chain link must make as it goes around the smaller sprocket.
When gearing down, it is best to go up in tooth number on the wheel sprocket.

hi pumpguy I think you mis read this post it's about going smaller on the rear or bigger on the front which are the same. 3 smaller on rear = one bigger on front.

I have a 220 with almost stock performance and use 15/48 without any issues in dual sport rides and super hard gnarley woods. the longer usable gear ranges in second and third are really nice to have when the woods open up enough to get out of first. the shorter 13/47 gearing is fine for using the kdx as a trials bike, but I prefer it as a woods/dual sport that can connect trails on the street at 55mph easily.ecojbr wrote:For those who have done this, would it gain enough to drop a few teeth on the rear sprocket to lenghten each gear and still have the same power as before. Glad to hear that the gains will be sufficient. After coming off my 250 I am also missing my off idle grunt( but not the weight or over rev ). As soon as our race season is over it is on it's way to Eric!!
