Fly Wheel Weight for 88' KDX200

Post by TwoWheeler »

Anyone have experience with a fly wheel weight on an air cooled KDX200?

Logic would tell me it would not be desirable, but according to an individual who has built over 17 KDX's, he claims it's a great upgrade.

Also, so far I've had zero luck finding a mfr that makes a fly wheel weight for an 88' KDX200. I called Steahly today, and they said they used to make one many years back, but not anymore and they don't think anyone does.

Thanks for any thoughts!! (BTW, I'll be traveling for the next 4 business days with limited access to the internet, so I apologize if I'm slow on the return). Thanks!!!

it really comes down to your riding style and what you're using the bike for. I had side-by-side comparisons, both '89 KDX's with identical mods but one had a massive FWW on it. the one with the weight on it took nearly all the snap out of the already tamed powerband and took longer to get into the power when WOT, something that shouldnt really be of concern if you ride really tight technical trails. The weighted KDX was easier to climb hills and much harder to stall. These KDX's are liquid-cooled but the same effect applies to pretty much any motor

Thx for the feedback KDXRider1989!

"Easier to climb hills and much harder to stall" is music to my ears!!

I hope to find one to install on my 88'. Unfortunately, no luck finding one yet :(.

If the Fly Wheel is held on with the same nut as an E or H series, then those FWWs could work. They simply replace the stock nut.
