Is .011" too tight for ring end-gap on a 220?

Postby pw455 » 12:15 am Oct 09 2015

I hate to ask, but is this too tight for a 220 ring end gap? Manual states .012" minimum, but Wiseco insert states .004" min per 1" bore which works out to .011".

The .011" feeler gage slides right in and the .012" won't quite go all the way in so it's somewhere in between. This is for a freshly replated cylinder and new Wiseco piston so I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks,
Pete

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any stones, but have a set of fine jeweler's files I can use.

If the math works out to .011 and the .011 feeler slides in, I'd leave it alone. Why risk screwing it up if it is within spec?

I believe the manual calls for .3 mm minimum, which works out to .0118". So the .012" feeler gauge not quite fitting is actually pretty much perfect.

Yeah, I think I will just leave it. I'm guessing it'll open up pretty fast during the initial break-in.

Thanks for the replies,
