Anyone ever remove more than 2 shims each with heavier springs?

Somebody commented on here about doing that . Removed 3-4 total BUT they were using ATF or 7.5 weight fork oil.

I've never done the mod but seems like the ones that remove 2 shims stay with the stock 5 weight oil.

Typically you spring for your weight and valve for the type of riding you do.

But suspension is such a personal preference type of thing. You could have the same bike and the same track/trail and one rider would prefer heavy springs/light valving and the other would prefer light springs/stiffer valving.

I'm around 205-210 lbs with gear. Have xr400 springs .40kg/mm, using mobil 1 atf, and 2 shims a side removed. Forks are much better with a lot less deflection. When I'm climbing a hill and hit a root about 6inches high I feel they could be a bit more plush, or am I hoping for too much? What would be the trade off if I removed say 2 more shims? Would I lose high speed stability? I ride some sections with 6-8in rocks embedded in the ground at 30-40mph.

Great question Silverfox.
I am the same weight with the same mods as your set up. I ride a lot of single track with lots of rocks and roots. Lately I have wondered if removing more shims would help that initial stroke be more plush. It feels pretty good now, but could be a little softer on the square edged stuff.
Anybody try removing more shims? Is it better/worse?
