I'm going shopping for a tiny 12V battery today then.

I wonder if a capacitro would work also ?

Caps will work as well. I'd just run a 12v out if an alarm system.

you were right . I stuffed a tiny 11v battery from the batteries plus store under the seat and now I have a nice bright led light, and 13_14v with a few revs.

Just an update...

I have an inline switch between the battery's + and the regulator rectifier. With the switch engaged, wonderful 12V dc flows to the head/tail lights, and the 1.3Ah battery smooths out the stator's jumpy output. With the switch disengaged, the stator's output still feeds the light, so if anything happens with the battery i still have the stator's output to use.

The light output is plenty for street or woods riding, I'm very happy with it.

I'll get some gopro video of it this weekend maybe :)

i hoped i could help, but i've burned two of them recently in my setup. i burned one while using the battery (fully charged, good) and burned a second without the battery. i believe the amerage draw of my led lights isn't enough to dissapate the supplied power, and the RR is heating up inside to the point of melting. that's what they look like anyway.

if anyone wants to lend their AC/ DC knowledge of how stuff works, please do :)

Interesting, I'll stay tuned, hopefully this cab be resolved. I was planning on a 36W spot flood combo on fork ears, not sounding like too awesome of an idea after hearing that

oh it will work fine, using just the stator's AC output. it's not as smooth (it flickers at low rpm) as a nice DC loop, but 36W is plenty of light for night/trails riding. don't let my failures at electrical stuff discourage you at all. go led. you'll love it.

I run led's on/in everything, my Brute, my tw200, crf230f, lawn mower, Scion, 4runner etc, The Auxbeam 36w Spot Flood combo is the best MC headlight I have come across, the H4/dual 18W flood in the tw doesnt even compare to the auxbeam 36w, I have the fork ears, bar mount switch and all, Just cant find a regulator I trust

I'm wanting to add a voltage regulator/rectifier and float the ground so that I can run and LED head light. I'm hoping someone "bufftestor" can re post the images that photobucket won't show.

That will work, but you will only charge the capacitor when you have the light switch on. Not a big deal, but when you initially turn on the switch and the cap starts to fill you'll get dim output for a few seconds.

The Wings Moto rectifier pictured above looks like the one that I used for my LED upgrade 2 years ago and it is still working fine. For around $11.00 it was a bargain that paid off.

It is such a cheap upgrade to get blinding lights on your KDX without having to mess around with rewinding your stator I don't know why anyone would do it any differently. The only issue that I have had so far is that the little tabs that hold the lightbulb into the housing snapped off last fall and the bulb is now loose in the housing. It is still connected to the wires so it didn't fall out and amazingly with all of the banging it is now subject to from being loose, it still works perfectly fine. In the spring I'll look at it and see what I can do differently to keep it from happening again and I'll post if i can figure out how to modify the installation to prevent a repeat of this.
