Friction plates - do these look toast?

Post by Gotanubike »

Do these friction plates need to be replaced? The clutch doesn't slip, but these look like they're nearing the end of their useful life

This has been covered but I can't remember what causes the marks on the bottom of the clutch basket?

Bonus: found out why neutral was so hard to find. This could have wreaked some serious havoc

Only way to tell on the plates is put a micrometer on them and see if they are within spec. The marks on the bottom of the basket are most likely from the casting/machining process, not from dragging on anything in the motor (they go the wrong direction). Good catch on your return spring, that could have made a mess of things rolling around in there.
