rear brake pad recommendations

Post by bws2 »

I have a 2001 KDX200 and need to replace the rear brake pads.

Haven't replaced pads before, so I was wondering what pads (type / brand) would be a good choice.

I mainly do woods riding. Would OEM pads be the way to go, or are there after market pads that

are just as good, if not better?

I use EBC pads that I get off Ebay and have never had any trouble. OEM work fine as well.

Always used EBC with no problems. Guessing its been awhile, so I would put new brake fluid in as well.

Thank you, Sullyfam. Sounds like EBC may be the best way to go.

I'm looking at EBC brake pads and see that they come in either sintered metal or carbon.

What would be suggested for woods riding? I ride in Washington, where there's mud and water at certain times of the year.

Also some dry dusty riding during the summer months. I want to make sure I don't wreck my rotors by using the wrong pads.

If you encounter long down hills where you are really heating up the brakes (mountains), then the carbon is better. They don't heat up and squeal as bad as the sintered metal pads. If you ride a lot of muddy/wet conditions, the sintered metal is best. Neither composition will wreck you rotors. I run the EBC carbon here in the mountains on all of my bikes. They don't squeal nearly as bad as the Kawasaki OEM pads and I get good life out of them! Great product.
