read thew a lot of forums on here and decided to do a top end job so i put new pistion and bearings go for the first start up starts in three kicks idle for then dies.. get it started again with a little rev running with a little rev but no idle gets warm then completly dies.. my question is could i have dont something wrong??? by the way this is my first rebuild

Fuel delivery...have you tried the idle adjust knob? A new top end is going to require rejetting the carb, so read through the guide. Unless when you say it got warm and then died you mean it no longer will kick over.

Yes won't kick over again it take a few kicks and choke to get it goin again but I didn't Re jet the carbs

If you need choke to get it to run when warm you have a fuel delivery issue...read the jetting guide and you will have it sorted in no time.

You can't Re jet the carbs until the bike runs. Did you use fresh fuel to start the bike, or the old stuff that was in there already?
Remember, you need;
Air (filter new/clean, not over oiled?),
Fuel (new gas/oil mix, carb clean?, did you drain the carb? If so did you refill the carb?),
Spark (Did you use a new spark plug? is it gapped?)

Also, did you check the ring gap before you put the piston in?

Check list carb clean oil filter clean and new gas and oil rind gab fine it's doing the same thing be for before I did the rebuild it seams like maybe more of carb problem or spark ??

What it calls for 3 down for carb yall think to move it down or up one and I adjusted the the stew and nothing

How's the inside of the pipe look? Does the silencer need to be repacked?

I guess tear it back down and retry again rejected carb and still nothing I'm stump could it be that the head might need to be honed will that make it not stay running

New spark plug? If it was running prior to the rebuild then something on reassembly in regards to the fuel delivery is the issue. You can run a compression test to confirm you got the lower/upper right, then from there it's either spark or fuel I think. Best of luck and keep posting!

Update check the compression 145 got it started idle fine the started to rev high then dies then takes a little bit to get started it once started it does the same thing rechecked the jets there fine could there be a air leak that could cause it to rev out and die at idle??

Sure does sound like a vacuum leak. Check that intake. Try it with the choke. Does it seem better with choke on? If so vacuum leak. Intake/left crank seal/base gasket.

Base gasket as of the heads nearing the bottom crank case?? Ya it starts easy with the choke on but not off will idle right for a min or so then starts to rev high like your giving it throttle then dies

Sounds like It's running lean. That's why you need choke to start (more fuel) and when you turn it off it starts to lean out (less fuel/more air). Same thing will happen if you turn off your fuel and run the carb bowl to empty on a perfectly jetted bike. I have to think this is an issue in the carb - clogged jet or float level too low.

Pull the tank off and empty/clean it, pull the petcock and clean it/check the filter screens. Still sounds like fuel delivery. Pull the fuel line off and run it to a glass container and turn on the petcock and let it flow. If that seems normal next place to look is the float valve/seat/float height. Then keep working down the line until it's fixed.
