moving on to kx250

Decided that it is time to move on to KX250. Sad to see the old KDX200 go as has been great learning bike and bullet proof as well (owned 18months). However son decided to part with his 2005 kx250 and since I was considering various upgrades including kx250 forks seemed it was no brainer to pay $800 to upgrade to kx250. (got $2200 for kdx paid $3000 for kx). initiall thoughts were that kx might be a bit much for me but after adding 11oz flywheel weight enables me to ride similar style to kdx but heaps more torque for sand and hills to haul my 100kg butt. Then twist the throttle and the kx is like the kdx on steroids. Any one else moved on to kx 250 and how did they find the transition? Also what mods did they do to kx if any? so far I am happy with the stealthy flywheel weight makes the bike easier to kick start and has taimed the power delivery down a wisker.

36mm carb would probably help a lot. All the EXC's use them. If you could internally regear the trans, and put a large tank on it, you basically have a new KDX250

Large tank would be awesome. What are they stock, 9L? Only disadvantage is the lack of headlamp. How reliable are they? Do they require new pistons more often (shorter hour intervals) than KDXs?

Very reliable, top end dictated by the amount of high-rpm use; otherwise, the same. You can add a stator with a lighting coil.

well latest mod is Rekluse EXP 3.0 auto clutch and i have to admit this is some serious kit. going on big forest ride tomorow and can't wait to really put this to test in the tight stuff, After the initial ride I would have to say that I have big expectations that this thing will be a revalation. If I am not faster with set up I would be very surprised, just seems to make everything easier. almost like cheating. Any one else tried this set up?
