Replacing Studs

Post by exilestudios »

Hello,

It's been quite some time since I've been on here, but I'm back as I'm working on my KDX again. Getting straight to the point, I've had a stud bolt(Part number: 92004A on this diagram) snap off in the past and I just road it out with just the other 3 torqued down for that summer and now that some time has passed and I'm getting my KDX 200 1989 prepped for the warm this year I'd like to get that issue resolved before a more serious problem occurs. However, I was wondering if they can be removed without tearing apart the bottom end and what would be the best way to go about removing the old and putting in the new. Is it just a matter of getting a good bite on them with some pliers and unscrewing them out of the bottom end and then screwing in the new the same way or is there some other method necessary?

Thanks

Yeah, you should fix that.
You can buy a stud removal socket that will make your extraction easier.

Thanks for the response. I had no idea such a thing existed. Next question is do you think this set(http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-pc-Sockets-St ... 1601258144) would suffice or would I be further ahead forking out the additional $12 for this set(http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/a ... 52654.html) instead? Thanks again for the advice!

My tool is similar to this although I think I found a cheaper model.
It fits multiple sizes.
I believe that your stud is 8mm or 10mm so either of those should be fine.
