Desert Pipe Fit Problem

Post by IDRIDR »

Happy Friday the 13th!

Picked up a desert pipe and trying to fit on the '03 KDX 220 and there is an issue with fitment. It looks like the upper hanger just isn't long enough. The woods pipe fit darned fine. Anybody see this before? Suggestions for resolution?

Do you have any other brackets tightened down?

Desert Pipe Fit Problem

I assume the pipe is used. Has it been dented and repaired, I bought one on e-bay and it didn't look bad but was tweaked. Had to be a little creative in making it fit. Elongating holes and tweaking the pipe a little bit. You bend the pipe by clamping it in a vice by the bracket and putting something long and stiff in the large opening and go at it from there. It's actually easier to bend then you might think. Go slow if you decide to tweak it.

Thanks. It's an eBay pipe sold as new. Doesn't look used. The lower bracket wasn't lose enough, and even then it took some stretching of the upper hanger. It's on now.

Next project is to install the pwk35 carb.

Good deal on the pipe. Let us know how that pwk 35 works. I have a 220 with the stock carb and am looking at the 35 pwk for it. Getting a head RB'd for it too.

I would just have RB mod the carb for it as well.

My plan is to send the 220 carb off to RB for his mods. I wanted to try both carbs before seeing what I modded one felt like. May send the head in also. I hope he's feeling better.
