OK, I need help, this is a new one to me!

Post by 6 Riders »

I bought my son an 01 220, the bike was bone stock and had leaking fork seals. Since I had already rebuilt a set of 95 forks to put on my 93 200, I just swapped front ends on the bikes. Now I'm working on the 93, putting a Tusk lighting kit on it, and need to "spruce up" the 220s old (stock) bars. I have a problem with them that I've never run into EVER before.

I can't get the stock grips off the left hand side of the bars. Yup, worn out old stock grips and they don't want to come off. How in the heck do I remove these grips?

I just split them off with a utility knife.

Try lifting just a tiny bit of the grip up just enough to get some compressed air in there and let it rip. That should free up the adhesive stuff.

Nope and nope. The right one peels right off after I cut it with a razor knife, but the left one :snooty:
That thing is just pulling apart into pieces. It's like it has created a perma bond to the bar..... :hmm: could be a good excuse for some new bars

I bought a used set that were like that. I think they just had way too much glue on it.
I had to sand the bar to get it smooth after getting it off.
