kipps valve
folks...i need some help. Im at my wits end with trying to reassemble the kipps valve on an 02 kdx 220. Ive watched youtube vids from one on a kx, and ive looked repeatedly at my service manual. Im completely lost. Are there any videos here that show me how to do this? For some reason i just cannot grasp the way these things operate and am absolutely clueless as to how this thing goes back together. Matter of fact if you live in the pittsburgh, pa area i'll pay $50 to have this done

Re: kipps valve
Are you having trouble syncing everything or physically installing the components?

Kaw814, I had my wife send you the link to the KDX site, The guys here should be able to help you out. Ted already sent you a very helpful link.
I live near Clarion, so I will help you if you can't get it.
FYI - the OEM piston in a 220 is known to randomly crack and ruin engines. I hope you were in the process of replacing it.
Julien, would you move this to the general questions? Thanks.

I live in Greensburg, PA, not sure how far that is from you. I don't have an h-series but I've done 2 top-end rebuilds on my e-series (kips, piston, rings) and understand the concept of how the kips works pretty well. I fyou need a hand I could help you out. You buy the beer!
edit - here's another good guide on kips installation. http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/657765 ... to-kdx200/

Re: kipps valve
where exactly are you in reassembling this?
it is a rather complicated setup working on a very simple principle, almost like dominoes

Re: kipps valve
thx for the help folks.....i couldn't find the timing marks...my service manual shows a different timing mark than the bike actually has. I actually had a mechanic show me what to look for. Whether or not i still have problems reassembling it remains to be seen. Idk folks, i used to love working on these things. Not the case anymore. Maybe I'll hook up with one of you PA riders if i ever get the thing done
