1996 kdx 200 engine compatability

Post by bone7615 »

I herd from someone that a 250 out of a Suzuki quad racer will fit in my 1996 kdx. I was just wondering if anyone has herd of that, also what other dirt bike engines will work. I love my kdx but more power on that same chassis would be sweet.
If you had a choice to date supermodels for the rest of your life or ride dirt bikes, would you choose a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke?

Can always get a big bore kit. Don't think that engine will fit without frame and pipe fab work.

The cylinder sleeve is nickle plated on the kdx so its non boar-able. You can get a aftermarket cast sleeve for it but its expensive and I'm not to sure how it holds up with the heat.

Eric Gorr has a 225 big bore kit. It feels like a 250 for sure. Only problem is it will over power the stock suspension.

Cylindes are boar-able. You must bore re-plate and hone to size with a fixed diamond hone. They make 4 over sizes. You can also sleeve. Sleeves hold up just fine. Some bikes are sleeved from the factory.

Re-plating or sleeving is close to the same $$. I don't re-plate but I do bore and sleeve at the shop.

Have read good things about the 225 kit.

Ok that makes sense, to bad I just rebuilt the top end and got another re-plate. I guess i will just have to try and blow it up again.

Seems to me like you may need to just few a kx250.. More power and better suspension.

However I'm all for the 225 kit.

I have aftermarket suspension on the bike so I think it should hold up with the boar kit. Does anyone know where I can check that 225 kit out. I do all the work to my bike myself but I have never messed with boring anything out. What tools are involved in installing that upgrade.

The kit will be a whole new jug or you will need to send your jug out to be done. Other then that it is the same as just doing a new top end and re-jetting.
