Here's a part I'd like to see!

When changing jets, it takes a 17 mm wrench to get the float bowl access cover off. I'm sitting there with a 6 mm socket for the jet and phillips screwdriver for the carb boots in hand. Wouldn't it be useful to be able to use either of those to remove the access cover? Seems like it'd be easy to integrate either a 6 mm head or combo phillips/straight slot (or both!) in the access cover.

Only problem I see with that is a small area to apply force for a large object. Seems like if the plug was at all stuck it might be pretty easy to round off the corners of a 6mm head vs the 17mm head that is currently there.

I have to say that is a bad idea. The way I see it, the carb boot clamps do not really need 17mm head bolts to hold it. :razz: :lol:

I was thinking you'd add the 6 mm ON TOP of the existing 17 mm, not instead of. I'm also going to assume that if you're changing jets in the field that you do this fairly often and the plug isn't going to be stuck.

Mine sat for 9.5 years, and I am glad it was a 17mm head, not 6mm hex. They can get quite attached as the o-ring deteriorates.

I just wish the jets would be changeable from the side, without having to do more than maybe remove an access cover. having to loosen the boots and take the carb off is a big enough PITA that I don't adjust my jetting as much as I would like. Sometimes I have large elevation changes in a single day. An even better solution would be fuel injection, but not much chance of that on a model that has a foot in the grave already.

That would be cool if you could get to the pilot by just removing the 17mm drain plug. I rarely change just a main.

No difference. You're still exerting the force to remove the large plug on the small head.

That would be Dial-a-Jet.

By the time I get done fussing with trying to find where the main jet fits when the carb is upside down and blind....I would have been better off taking the carb off in the first place.

Why not have the fuel bowl held on with a bail spring anyway? Some carbs have that. Snap the bail out of the way...DONE!

Until then I'll use my pliers, monkey and adjustable wrenches to wail on things. :wink:

Yes, but you'll have the 17 mm as backup.

Oh well, nobody likes it so, I guess it's not going to fly.

I don't remove the carb to change jets! I just loosen the boot clamps, rotate it a little bit and it seems pretty easy to get to.

No way!! The 'saddle' of the KDX is one of its great ergonomic features. It's a 'natural' spot..and it's a GOOD spot, balance-wise, too.

Yesterday I was on a downhill that was wet, slippery...but with enough traction to have to be real careful on the front brake. The back end was creeping up often. The KDX saddle kept me from going over the frontend myself..a$$ over teakettle!

You could lessen the saddle depth with tall seat foam! You might need foot-long pull rods..but the saddle wouldn't be as deep!!
