1997 KDX 220 Wiseco

Post by Jimr80gs »

Long time off smokers but found a super clean 1997 220 last year, apparently the wife's bike. Not many places to single track close to home, Havre, MT, but the price was great due to "cleaning garage and she's doesn't ride any more". Score. Everything seems fine but thought I'd change the piston - seller thought he might have but couldn't remember for sure. Time to do some maintenance prior to spring so it's the KDX turn.

So having said all that, Wiseco only list the 220 piston as 98-05. I'm pretty sure it will still work fine on my 97, I can't find any changes between the years. Will the 98-05 work in my 97? Wiseco part # is 750M06900.

Thought I'd ask the wisdom of the list prior to ordering. I'm in a small town in Montana so no regional shop help, anything needed will be online ordering. I've been using partzilla.com for parts on the other bikes, any recommendations?

It will, I did mine this winter, piece of mind. I posted a couple pics of the old and new piston side by side so you can see the difference between forged and cast.

Yes same engine. You may want to also check out Wossner. Little more $$ but IMHO Wossner pistons are a forged work of art. Very nice machining and fully coated.

I have found them to be 10grams heavier over stock. Most likely from the thicker pin bosses. Not that it really matters just FYI.
