WELCOME! You have found a great forum and a legendary bike.......
The bolts are at the back of the seat, going through the side panels. Remove those, lift rear of seat and pull back (away from tank).
Buy a new air filter, preferably 2 or 3. Maybe a pre-oiled, like the No Toil, for your first change. They can be cleaned a re oiled a couple times. Have one for a back up, this time a standard (not pre-oiled), practice oiling and "drying" this one.
Also, your jetting is probably off, so be prepared to go through the jetting guide.
Where are you from?

Re: kdx runs like choke is always on
Was the bike doing that when you bought it or did it just start since you brought it home?
Fresh gas?
I would plan on cleaning the carb. That will also give you a chance to find out what jets are in there.

Twin Air, Moose and No Toil's "premium" filter. Are [what I consider] to be the best filters. I've had bad luck with Uni filters coming apart after the first wash. The Pro X filter seems similar to the Moose filter, but I haven't used one...yet.jersey8115 wrote:Well I'm from sj Monroe Twp and is there any better brand for the kdx air filters
The No Toil Fast Filter works great in a pinch and they can be washed with dish or laundry soap and re-oiled a couple times. In the wet conditions that I ride in I've never had a problem with using them. Last top end that I did, after 5 years of riding, there was no signs of dirt in the intake or cylinder.

Re: kdx runs like choke is always on
As has already been recommended, following the jetting procedure will get things set-up properly. I wouldn't rely on generic settings. Even at sea level, I would bet that the 160 main and 48 pilot are too rich.

This will do it: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 105&t=1156
If you have a shop close by that has a good selection of jets, then I would get a couple of jets leaner on the main and pilot (like 158, 155 or whatever the actual numbers are). But if you need to order jets, like from jetsrus.com, then I would go at least three leaner because of the time and expense of shipping.

That air filter test is why I bought 2 Moose Racing filters for my sons 05 KDV 200. It's the only test of air filters I have ever seen.
Whoa that was close!!! Damn kid is too fast for me to try and keep up to.
