Any bike shop will carry both cleaner and oil. Imho any name brand will do. The spray cleaners work well.

I use no toil. Seems to work ok but I'm always unsure as to how much I should be putting on. Also, I tore a bit of my filter because is had fused with the screw... Maybe I hadn't let it dry a full hour, I don't know. But overall I'm satisfied.

Simple green works really well so does dawn dish washing liquid .rinse well let dry and spray with belray filter oil , Or a tub of filter oil , I prefer the spray, rub in till all the filter is the same color. If you use a tub you will have to damp out the filter( remove excess) , do not wring it out as it may rip the foam .

Oh yeah, forgot to say: I use oxyclean to clean my no toil filter. Works great and is fairly cheap.

I use a two step process. Soak the filter in a bucket of Varsol, that gets the old oil out. Then dunk in a tub of simple green to get the varsol out and whats left of the dirt. Rinse with water and I'm left with a squeaky clean filter, every time.

Hmm, where would I find "Varsol"?

Any hardware store has it. It's basically paint thinner.

It doesn't mess up your filter? Varsol is really strong. Often used in the oil industry as well as a cleaning agent for weapons caked in carbon...

Yeah I did some reading online on what the active chemicals were and a few people seemed to also use oxyclean (which has the same chemical) on thumpertalk. But either way, I can confirm it works great. Most people just throw it in the machine, but I put half a scoop in a bucket of water, then let it soak for 5 mins and wearing gloves, work it over as you normally would. Gets all the dust and no toil out great.

Oops. I did not put what oil. I have had great luck with Bel-ray and Maxima oils. I prefer oil, not a spray.
