Kdx petcock fell apart.

Post by bored808 »

So I got my new to me 99 kdx200 home. Took carb apart and cleaner. Ordered some parts including new reeds to replace the mangled ones that came out. Changed the gas and the plug and the bike fired up second kick and sounded nice and crisp!
I look down and there is gas pouring out. Seems that the elbow where the fuel line connects to the petcock came out. It doesn't look like its a part that you should be able to remove.
Does this mean I need a new petcock?
If so does anyone make aftermarket?
I can add a photo as soon as someone tells me how. Lol
Do I have to upload it to my photobucket and paste the URL?
Btw, I love this site! Read some great topics and write ups!

I know the part you mean as mine too came out a while ago when I refitted my fuel pipe!

What I did was remove the tank & empty the fuel...clean the end of the elbow & inside the fuel tap with `carb cleaner` to remove any oil...on the elbow there`s a groove where a small thin metal O ring should sit...don't worry its probably broken & fallen away....the elbow is a push on fit & should be tight inside the fuel tap.....press it in as tight as you can with pliars or mole grips making sure the elbow is facing downwards....I mixed up some `liquid metal` & applied it all round the back of the elbow & tap...leave it to dry for a day then fit your tank & top up with fuel....mine hasn't fallen out or leaked since.

Nice! That's better than what I was thinking, I think. I was going to see if my buddy could tig weld it.

Teflon tape and a zip-tie fixed that one for me...

It's supposed to point down? Mine was pointing left, towards the front of the bike. No jk. Lol

Kdx petcock fell apart.

I moved mine slightly to the right ..sort of `4 o clock` position so its toward the carb...a lot of people when removing the tank let it rest on the floor on the fuel tap, & this is what makes it move in the first place !

Don't weld the thing as you`ll damage the insides...you may just get away with pressing it on real tight, I only used the liquid metal as extra piece of mind.

I was just about to post about this - having just found a leak coming from the elbow (it's a pretty loose fit) and was puzzled as to how fix - the groove for a ring does not run the full circumference. Rather than stress my solution was going to be PTFE tape and Boss White - I'll give that a go and if it fails take the liquid metal route.

Thanks for the idea cornishwecker220 : )
