After 3 years ,I decided to repack my silencer.

Hi. I have a Fmf silencer. I bought it new.Never repacked.I bought whool.

Now I want to repack my silencer so I removed all the srews and theses little insersts/bolts.

But what is the best way to strip down this silencer.

Nothing move when I pull and I dont want to break anything.

I have the same silencer. If you are just going to repack it remove the screws from the inlet side (coming from pipe). You may have to pry on the inner lip of the inner cap to break it loose or use propane or map gas and heat up the end to help break the seal. I just used some high temp RTV gasket sealer when I reassemble it.

Thats just the straight thru no spark arrested (powercore) version right? Once you remove the screws from the inlet side you need to remove the screw inserts from the otherside of the flange. You should be able to pop them out with a flat head screwdriver. Once they are you gently tap the inlet stinger on an angle to work the back side off. Repack and seal with RTV on reassembly. You'll have to press the inserts back into the flange. I just use a pair of pliers. You can also rivet them if you prefer that to screws.

If the strap is in rubber maybe it will stick well.

No, it's not my first.

On the silencer, I know on the PC II for '95+, the instructions say to use sealant on the junction.

Have you tried using a wooden dowel to push from the other side?

No. Both ends are still on the silencer.

I've used a strap wrench and a chain wrench like wibby's to hold the flywheel in place while removing it. Both worked equally well.

Merely an IMO...but I'd sure stay away from a chain wrench to hold a magneto rotor!! You want NO nicks, NO dents, NO scratches NO stresses applied to that thing AT ALL!

ok the job is done.I used a propane torch.Worked well.The old packing material was black, hard and dry. But no liquid spooge in there. I will do this job each year. thanks
