o-ring chain on a 89 kdx200?
when I got my bike the chain was worn.
So I bought a o-ring chain with 2 new sprokets.
I installed the kit then turn the wheel with my hand.It was hard to turn and this is normal but I noticed the chain touch and groove (a litttle)the aluminum case under the front sproket. The bike was made for xring chain and the oring ones are much thicker.
So to avoid problems I went back to the store to return the chain and I instal non-oring chains since this time.
Anyone had this issue? thanks
Do you run orings chains on theses models?

What part of the case did it touch? Did you have your front sprocket guard on? What size front sprocket did you buy?
"The bike was made for xring chain "
Did they even make x-ring chains back in 1988? Did you mean a non-ring chain?
I had an o-ring chain on my 1994 for a while, and I didn't have any problems that I noticed.

The only problem that I observed with running a o-ring chain on my 89 was the chain rub block needed to clearance a bit to work with the larger o-ring chain. Once it worn in a bit it worked great.

good morning.
Jason...Part of the case?---The crankcase where the sproket shaft goes out.
Yes I have the spocket guard on and the srocket is a 13t.
Sorry, I mean non-oring chain!
I will give a other try to o-ring chain to see ...

Any chance you had the '89 "one o-ring only" behind the front sprocket? I am wondering if two o-rings and the collar would have spaced it out more??
You are making me want to go check mine!

The engine is out in the garage outside of the frame, as I have painted the frame and the bike is disassembled. I will check it later today. If I don't get back to you, just send me a PM.

I had an O-ring chain on my '92
No clearance problems, only rubbed on the chain block, enough that I had to replace the master link clip, but then it just got too kinky for me
I've got a DID ERT gold non o-ring chain on the KDX now

Do you think the oring chain clearance is too thin?? I do not whant to ruin the case!!
Do you have a similar gap on your bike?
Thanks everybody!

Wow! That is close! Did you check the collar and o-ring(s)? I would want it to have more space than that. I will have to check mine when I put it all back together.

I just bought a X-ring chain for mine... I sure hope it has more clearance than that. It has a O-ring on it now and have changed the sprocket and didn't notice any problem with clearances.

The 2 0rings are there.
The collar is 3-4 years old and in good shape. No leaks there.
The sproket is tight and no loose.
I think this is too much close ! why???????
thanks ...
Does all the oring chains have the same thickness?
Does a xring chain have the same thickness than a regular chain?
Maybe I will buy a other regular chain to avoid problems!
