FMF spark arrestor?
Hey all,
My 220 came to me with a FMF power core II pipe. My understand is that it does not have a spark arrestor. Can I just put a Turbine core II tip on it? Is that where the spark arrestor is? Or do I need to buy the whole Turbine Core pipe to replace the Power Core?
Thanks!

The spark arrester is in the can, not in the tip. You will have to buy the whole thing.

Yep. One has to buy the whole spark arrestor.
A power core is a silencer only.

FMF spark arrestor?
To satisfy those that enforce the rules, whatever you put on the end of your FMF pipe should allow a relatively low sound level, say around 82 dB or less, and be stamped with US FOREST SERVICE APPROVED SPARK ARRESTOR , or words to that effect.
Satisfy those 2 criteria and you should be good to go.

No. It will not come with that "connector." Just use the OE one, piece of cut radiator hose, etc. Many possible solutions available.

I can't speak for other countries but here in the US the AMA endorses a 94dB limit and even requires it for any AMA sanctioned off road race. As for individual states, it can be even more restrictive.pumpguy wrote:To satisfy those that enforce the rules, whatever you put on the end of your FMF pipe should allow a relatively low sound level, say around 82 dB or less, and be stamped with US FOREST SERVICE APPROVED SPARK ARRESTOR , or words to that effect.

82db?!?!? I don't think you can buy a sewing machine that is that quiet?!?!pumpguy wrote:To satisfy those that enforce the rules, whatever you put on the end of your FMF pipe should allow a relatively low sound level, say around 82 dB or less, and be stamped with US FOREST SERVICE APPROVED SPARK ARRESTOR , or words to that effect.

Especially a 2 stroke. I thought it was higher like 94-96?

Just for reference my ECEA sponsored events are a maximum of 96dbs. (Off the record) they only ever turn the mics on if the forestry professionals are hanging out at Tech Inspection. (I didn't say that)
Just a square trying to ram myself into that circular hole...

US FOREST SERVICE APPROVED SPARK ARRESTOR and 82 dB is what's stamped on the stock silencer of my 97 KDX 200.
IMO if it's not stamped as approved by some regulating agency, for many rules enforcers it doesn't matter how good a spark arrestor it actually is.
The OP's topic is "FMF spark arrestor?" I added the sound level stamped on my silencer as an added measure to satisfy those that enforce the rules. Obviously a bike can't be too quiet. The higher the dB, the more likely you are to have somebody object, and that makes things bad for all riders.

Re: FMF spark arrestor?
The FMF Turbine Core II is approved. And its true every state has different noise rules. In Oregon where I live its below 99db unless in a few coastal dune riding areas it varies between 93-97 depending on which OHV area. Thanks for your input!

Supposedly the stock one bolts right on and you don't ever have to change the packing. And there are probably hundreds floating around for cheap money. People tell me that it performs just as well as the FMF ones. I would put my stock one on my FMF but I must have tweaked the pipe along the way and can't get it to fit unless I mess with it. Just don't have the time...
