C piston in a B motor?
Yes, yes, it's on ebay....
What do you think of a C piston in a B motor? I ran an A for 2 years and it honestly bugged me knowing that I didn't have the "right" piston in there. However, I've figure that a '97 jug might be worn just enough that a C would be fine. What say? I'm due for a top end this spring and I just might go ahead and grab that piston if none of you sharks beat me to it.

Pro-X, right. Difference is .01 millimeter = 0.0003937 inch. You're right...that's ridiculously small. I thought it was .01 INCH and you made me go look.
I'm going riding. Just put a new front/rear tire on in prep. for that hare scramble. If the piston's still there when I come back, I'll BIN. If anyone needs it worse than me, go for it.

I searched and found it. RIK, not NIK, my bad. I think Pro-X just resells Japanese pistons. It says, "Riken Corporation, Japan" on the side of the box, so I am going to be bold and say it was made by Riken.
Don't wear the new off the tires.

It's still there. If'n you are NOT going to get it (what's wrong with the buy now price? It's hardly different than the bid start anyway)..let me know!!
Like...soon!
I need a piston for my OEM cylinder. If you are not going to get it for whatever reason..I sure will.
Thanks!
re: being bold
It says RIK on the ring box. There is no pic of the piston box.

Got it.
The piston is in a Pro-X box. The rings are moly-coated. They measure the exact same size in thickness.
The piston lands aren't the same. The top land is a good (meaning a bit over) .001" smaller than the second ring land. BUT the rings do fit the top land. The coated edge won't fit into the land, but the ring does fit when installed as it should be.
I've found this to be true of Pro-X pistons before, so I guess they are designed that way.
That difference has brought up the 'which ring goes where?' question before.
Note the 'moly' question in another thread. Any input?
Thanks!

That is interesting! How does it "won't fit", then ""does fit"?
If you can, put a couple of pictures of them in your in-thread Gallery folder.
Thanks!

I tried the camera part the other day. After fussing with trying to get the thing to initialize for twenty minutes..I gave up.
re: won't fit
Inserting the face of the ring into the top land..it won't fit.
re: does fit
When installed as used...with the face OUT..the ring fits as it should.

That isn't necessarily an odd thing. Not hard to see that the ring face (being coated) may be a bit fatter than the ring itself. I used that only as an indication how little the difference between the two lands is.
The piston came from LA Sleeve at some point in time...btw.

Ahhh, so it is just the ring face. I won't even look up to see if you already said that. (MUST resist) Interesting on the L. A. Sleeve part, too.

I thought everyone knew that? I have 3 Pro-X piston boxes on the shelf and they all say "L.A. Sleeve"on them.Jason wrote: Interesting on the L. A. Sleeve part, too.
And BTW, I compared the Pro-X with an OEM at my last change and they were NOT the same. The oil holes on the sides were a little different and there were just a few other small changes. I have the OEM in it now and will go back to Pro-X, so I'll take pictures this time.

Re: I thought everyone knew that?
Knew what?
Not all Pro-X pistons come from LA Sleeve.
....but, you must mean something else, 'cuz that doesn't make sense.
The difference part is interesting. It's long been told that Pro-X distributes the same piston as Kawi uses in the KDX.
That said, I wouldn't doubt that at some point in the production cycle Kawi used something not exactly the same as the KDX they just built.
Heck. I'll bet if you bought enough pistons from your local Kaw dealer....over time you would find you bought something different than was in your bike to start with.

Well, see, just goes to show ya! All of my are from LA Sleeve and I've never even ordered from them! Now that I think about it, I've always ordered from Throttlehead (or HiPer Sports, back when they were them). Betchya they get 'em from LA Sleeve.canyncarvr wrote: Not all Pro-X pistons come from LA Sleeve.
