What's your preferred tire?
Hey guys. I haven't seen this thread so I'm going to start it!
What tires do you run and why?
I run a Dunlop Geomax MX51 front and a Perrelli MT16 rear. GREAT for rock riding. Front holds those sharper turns and the rear just grips anything. But when I get low on the bike for Harescramble races my rear spins and slides out on me.
I would love to hear what you guys had to say! I love learning about other preferences because I love trying new things! Thanks guys! Let me know!

Dunlop Sports D773 rear tire.
Michelin Competition S12 front tire.
For where I ride in Minnesota, St. Croix and Nemadji, this has been my favorite combo. Its a lot of rock and sand and these have worked for me on various bikes.

I tried the new Dunlop AT 81 off-road tires front and rear. (110/90/18 on rear)
Very impressive! By far and away the best front AND rear I have ever used on our local terrain.

This!! +1. The Dunlop AT81 is the best damn tire I have ever ridden on. Whether it's on dirt, sand, mud, or rocks, this tire GRIPS!! The wear is awesome too. Wears like steal!chippy wrote:I tried the new Dunlop AT 81 off-road tires front and rear. (110/90/18 on rear)

I run 13 psi in them with heavy duty tubes. I'll be sticking with this tire for as long as they make it.
Edit- I run the 110/100-18 rear tire

Mountains of N.W. Montana.
Lots of rocks, tree roots, clay, mud, and just a little bit of snow here lately. I run 10 psi in the rear, 12 psi in the front. These are the best tire I have ever run. (and I have tried alot of them!)
The only thing better in loose rocks is a full-on trials tire. ( IRC radial ) But these are better on everything else. ESPECIALLY the front.
I just bought another set for my Honda CRF250x. Dunlop has a rebate on them right now.

Re: What's your preferred tire?
I'm going to try the shinko sr241 trials next, unless someone tells me it sucks, on the kdx
my favorite on the drz for woods is the mx51, man that tire rips!!!
on the drz as a dual sport, shinko 244 is great.
I've had a desert it on the kdx, it performed poorly.

Re: What's your preferred tire?
another REAL satisfied customer here with the at81 set. I have the desert RC 19" rear though, 11 psi max for any kind of good bite. front is awesome at 13psi

Re: What's your preferred tire?
I've been enjoying the $h!t out of the Kenda Washougals......rear is a bike launching monster, the front....I have ONE complaint.....It grips TOO WELL.....Riding the "river rock" trails of W. WA they corner like nothing else....In the mountains I find that they climb right up the cliff side. And braking is a learning curve....these tires actually STOP...like "right now"...

HOLY COW!! THAT KENDA WASHOUGAL (sticky version) LOOKS TERRIFYING!
So I am between these tires:
MX51
AT81
WASHOUGAL STICKY.
Which tire would be the best for both rock and sand? I live in NJ and have both terrain. I also dabble on a track :).
What do you guys think??

And what is up with the new TUBLISS system? It looks great! Great reviews... But how long does it last? Do I have to pay $200 for the system every season? Every tire? Does anybody run them or have knowledge? And I'm still stuck on what tire I want

I'll never use anything besides a trials tire out back again. Tubliss looks great, especially for trials tires. Definitely on my wish list....

Re: What's your preferred tire?
tubliss is great, do it. as long as you don't kill the high pressure tube while changing a tire , you won't have to do anything to it for years. tire changes are a bitch, but you'll get the hang of it.KDX_Johnny wrote:And what is up with the new TUBLISS system? oh, and 5psi in the tire means it grips EVERYTHING. yes 5psi

Re: What's your preferred tire?
It's my 3rd season with rear trial tire(dunlop d803), in mud and rainy condition they are not the best choice I found... At my first ride this summer it was raining like hell and I had no traction in the wood/roots/mud...Julien D wrote:I'll never use anything besides a trials tire out back again.
On dry condition, best tire ever !!

Re: What's your preferred tire?
personally, I hate the mx51 front tire, feels like it wants to wash out everywhere, very sketchy handling on every bike it was put on. on my KDX I run a IRC m5b in the back, awesome tire with HUGE knobbies that wear like iron, and grab just about everywhere. at the moment I also have a michelin MS3 up front that I am very optimistic about, but have yet to try it out
