Help, Plug is getting wet after tip overs, won't start

Post by Motorpsycho »

Hey All,
I have searched the interwebs but have not really found the answer to my dilema and am hopeful on of you fine people can help me out with this.
I've recently developed a problem that when I tip the bike over or have a crash I can't get it started again. I have to pull the plug, blow on it to dry it off, reinstall and it will start up.
Obviously not crashing would help but is there anything I can do to remedy this considering that I will be crashing again?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting. ..I used to have a Suzuki with a similar issue
Only way around it on that bike was to put it in 4th and push start it, not a fix to the problem but it made life easier while dealing with it

Check the function of the float (holes blah blah) and make sure that they are set correctly.

^what he said. also check float needle for ridges in the rubber. check the drain tubes for the carb, especially the sides (there are two). having even one plugged up can cause a vacuum in the float chamber, and that causes flooding. not saying thats your problem, just check.

Thanks guys,
I'll pull the carb and check the float and see if there is something wonky in there.

Most bikes don't like to start after a fall as the gas from the float bowl spills into the throttle body & drains straight down the reed block ( depending on how long the bike is down on its side for ) ..since I routed my carb air breather pipes up & into the air box my kdx doesn't start that well after a spill, as the gas sits in the pipes then drains back into the carb rather than straight out & onto the floor ! ..lucky I don't fall off that often...but it does happen from time to time !
