Hello All,
I noticed the manual says to use 10-40w oil for the transmission. Am I ok using a 10-40w 4 stroke synthetic?
I think I am but was just asking to get peoples opinions.
thank you

Re: gear oil
There are so many oils you can use and so many opinions of which one is better and which one will screw things up so I gave up on trying decide on one and just use oil speceficly for dirt bike( Honda HP trans oil) that way I know for sure that nothing will go wrong it stays clean for a long time its not much more expensive than other oils if you buy online $6.07 I believe from motosport.com free shipping on orders over 50 dollars (11 bucks from a dirt bike store) if you don't want to do that look around on forums there are endless threads on what is best. To answer your question directly yes it is OK to use oils for 4 strokes because they share transmission and motor oil.

+1 for Honda HP1 trans oil. That's all we use in our KDX's. Use the full quart. We change it out every 10 to 20 hrs of use depending on how abusive we are being.
