Hello, I'm new to the group and just recently bought a 89 KDX 200. Had to put a top end in and now she runs good other than shes a little on the rich side. Is it normal to see smoke coming out of the KIPS cover? I'm pretty sure the system is working ok becuase the arm moves at high rpms but I'm new to power valves and to two strokes in general. Any input would be much appreciated.

It's an secondary expansion chamber that, in theory creates extra room for gases to move around when gas/air mixture gets puled back into the combustion chamber ...

Explained a little better here:

Your gasket is probably just cracked and has a leak. You can use a piece on non corrugated cardboard for a temporary gasket until you get one from Kawi

Didn't you check your KIPS powervalves when you did the top end?

I wasn't sure what the KIPS was when I did the top end. Ive done a lot more research on it now.
