Stock kickstand strength?
I just bought a '90 KDX200 with no kickstand. I have a stock one coming. I searched but did not find out if these stands are prone to breaking if used to mount the bike or kick the bike while on the stand. Are they weak? If weak where do they bend/break? I'm too darn short to get on the bike without it sitting on the stand.
Thanks, L D

Stock kickstand strength?
No they can be a total life saver. They are steel and add a little weight maybe. I just found one for my '90 about a few weeks ago and definitely no regrets. Somehow they are even kind of flexible, like they can be pushed and pulled like a car mirror.
Lock washers and nyloc nuts are recommended. Lock washers for the two mounting bolts(which are 12x25 with M1.25 pitch in case your seller told you that the two measly bolts would exceed the weight limit for their post carrier) ....and bolt and nyloc nut(or 2) for the pivoting pin which I replaced while I was at it.

Very strong stand. Just don't forget to clean and lube it once in a while.

Thanks for the replies, just what I needed to know. The seller included the two bolts. L D

I have seen short people kickstart the KDX with it on the stand

Well, I'm about a 29" inseam and about 5' 7" so I can't even throw my leg over the seat to get on. I can kickstart it from the right but having a kickstand sure makes life easier at 74 years of age. LOL! L D

Re: Stock kickstand strength?
I still enjoy riding very much. I have an '85 Sabre V4, '04 SV650, '02 DR650, '09 KLX250s at 330cc with hotter cams and the newly purchased KDX200. The only problem is I still work full time at a job I love so don't have as much free time to ride as I would like. I'm going part time the first part of next year so will fix that problem. :-)

Re: Stock kickstand strength?
I'm (still) rebuilding my 94....While I had the whole bike apart, I decided to take the side stand apart and found that the bolt that the stand pivots on to be pretty worn. I would recommend replacing that bolt with a new one. Use blue lock tight to hold it all together, especially if standing on it to kick it over.

My dad has the same issue with his 93 200. He has been kicking it on the stand since he bought the bike off the showroom floor. And he's only 72! lolthinairflyer wrote:Well, I'm about a 29" inseam and about 5' 7" so I can't even throw my leg over the seat to get on. Re: Stock kickstand strength?
Yes, there are a few aftermarket kickstands available. None that specifically fit the KDX though. You would have to modify or fabricate the mounting bracket to work.LonnieTheGreat wrote:Does anybody sell a kickstand that bolts to the frame like most bikes ?

Re: Stock kickstand strength?
I helped a buddy fit a trailtech stand that fits up under the rear marker when not in use. it took a small amount of fabrication to make it work(and it mounted from the frame), but it's not nearly that same strength as the stock issue kickstand. He did eventually rip it off while riding. Th stock one will take severe abuse, like kicking the bike while on it, the trailtech.....probably not.
