Replate or new cylinder time?
Just checked the top-end of my new '99 220...
Thoughts please...
(If it does need replating and anyone knows somewhere good to do it in the UK, I'd appreciate the info'.)
Thanks.

Re: Replate or new cylinder time?
I would say have it bored over 1.0 mm and replated
I had one of my 200 done by langcourt and was very pleased with the work and the level of communication
(I used their US facility but they actually started out in the UK)

since it looks like yours needs a rebore be sure to include the KIPS valves so they can grind the main valve for piston clearance
they should also have the piston you need in stock so just buy it from them and they will match the bore to the piston
im guessing your cost will be about 250 pounds for a bore, replate and top end kit

Replate or new cylinder time?
I'm not sure that would need a bore. I had one much worse off than that and langcourt did some weld repair and then plated back to factory spec.

Re: Replate or new cylinder time?
Indeed, I believe Langcourt will bore out the plating, and replate for no cost. Overbore is additional, and required fee for gouge repairs, etc.

I guess if you weld enough material to bore it back down to stock bore, that's an option aswel

Re: Replate or new cylinder time?
They won't weld that. They'll just cover it with plating. Mine had some huge gouges and chipped ports from a grenaded piston, hence the welding. That cylinder is fine, it's factory plating is just shot.

Re: Replate or new cylinder time?
