E serie FMF pipe ex Larry Roeseler??

Post by frenche200 »

Hello :)
I bought there is a short time an FMF pipe on ebay, the seller said:
This pipe was removed from one of Larry Roeseler's bikes and is in outstanding condition. Pipe has been beefed up with a bit more girth than normal for durability. Excellent Solid condition, no cracks, holes, leaks.
Well, owned Larry Roeseler or not, the price shipped from the US to France was OK, i bought it.
But I'm a curious guy, I asked some questions to the seller and this is the answers
larry is a personal friend of mine and it was on a bike that was sold to a mutual friend of both mine and larrys. our friend later put a different brand pipe on his bike and had this one in his garage..
as far as the pipes special details I only know that the pipe was made for Larry Roeseler when he rode for team green. it is thicker metal as you will see when you lift it out of the box.. any other details are not a known fact but I was told, it was a special design for larrys riding style.
I received the pipe, and I'm still curious (and I hate uncertainty! ) so if anyone owns an FMF for E serie, I would like to compare the dimension on the pipe to see if this pipe is "normal" or "special" FMF pipe

the measurements shown in the pics have been measured following the welds

Weight of pipe: 2.6 Kilogrames = 5.73 lbs
the maximum perimeter is around 36 centimeters

Thank you :D

I have the same pipe (gold) which was already featured when I bought my bike. Don't expect the first two mounting brackets to line up.

I don't see how a heavier pipe would be desired by a pro racer. 5.7lbs sounds about right. Jason may have a bit more info on this sort of thing, have you tried just fitting the pipe on to your bike yet?

I prob can measure mine this eve/tomorrow. It's off the bike right now. Larry might have just wanted a heavier walled pipe because they tended to beat the hell out of their bikes in his type of events.

Anybody remember when he rode the entire ISDE on a KX80 to secure more overall points for the team? That was straight baller.

The metal itself looks to have a slightly darker tinge. Perhaps some titanium compound / alloys? there isn't a spot of corrosion on it...

The pipe fits well
For the color, maybe it's the brightness? I redid a pics outdoor

There are currently no corosion but pipe have a surface treatment (nickel?) and only very minor impact: I think this explains it...
After having examined the only things "weird" that I have seen are:
- A welding seems different on one of the 3 fasteners (nearest the cylinder)
- 8 or the symbol ∞ was written in marker on the 3 fasteners

Look at the pics of my first post, want someone to compare all the mesurement with his FMF pipe :)
Saller of this pipe said "any other details are not a known fact but I was told, it was a special design for larrys riding style. "
I'm curious and i want to know if this pipe is a standard FMF pipe, or if it has been moded

I got 14.5 inches at the large elbow. I'm pretty sure mine is the desert pipe, but not 100%. I can't get to the whole pipe since the bike is stored behind many more.
