Hi, seems I will have a problem after my replating service from millenium. The kips valve bore size is about 0.3mm larger which cause the kips spacer to have movement from side to side after installing. the kips valves operate smoothly but will this cause the gears to strip more easily because of the movement from side to side?
Millenium did sandblast the whole top end but what is the rational of them blasting the kips holes. Sigh..
Anyone has got this problem after replating service?

Problem after replating
I assumed that might be an issue with my cylinder(replated by Powerseal) at first. The sand blasting makes the aluminum coarse and more grabby on the valves... Lubrication is the key there. Lubricate all the KIPS components mine seemed to operate just as well as before.
I didn't notice a considerable difference in side to side play for the valves. But Millenium and Powerseal are two different companies...
Also keep an eye on this company who are developing zinc passivated steel valves for the KMX200. With the right collars or adapter bushings will work in the KDX200 E series(I assume your bike is 1989-1994) They are developing the bushing adapters at the moment and when they have some sets made, they will have a listing on their website for the kdx200 89-94 bikes

sand blasting?
I assumed they soaked them in sulfamic acid. That is how I remove nickel at work.

Re: Problem after replating
not about removing the nickel. Carbon most likely, cos that is the fastest and easilest way to do.

Problem after replating
I doubt they sandblast the cylinder, pretty sure they use chemical to strip the plating.
Are you sure they sent you YOUR cylinder and not exchanged it? might explain that.
A few years back we heard quite a few horror stories about millenium i believe, bad plating, cylinder coming back out of round...
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it was from them.
I used power seal (recommended by a few members on this board) and was pleased with the results.

No, they sand blast everything except the plating. He is talking about the holes that the power valves are seated in. It definitely looks like the work of sandblasting on the whole outer casting of the cylinder.
Here is a quick snap of mine. Correct me if I'm wrong but those are leftover sandblasting beads stuck in the aluminum??

Re: Problem after replating
Wow. It looks like something.
I think the company with the problems was US Chrome that a few were referring to back then. I know Eric Gorr (for some reason) is using Millenium instead of US Chrome.
