My neighbor gave me four brand new NGK B8ES plugs. Do you really need to run a resistor plug in the KDX?

Isn't the stock plug a B8ES? I know I run resistor plugs, but I didn't think that they where called for.

My manual states it a NGK BR9ES. A lot of people on this site say to run a BR8ES as a 9 is to cold. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that this an '89.

If your neighbour gave you x4 resistor plugs then perhaps he/she is trying to tell you something?

I have always used B8ES in E-series and H-series KDX200's, never had a problem

OK, so the owners manual states that the BR9ES is the stock plug, but ALSO says that the B9ES is usable as an alternative. The B8/BR8 is a little hotter and tends to be recommended in the KDX...I run both and don't truly notice a difference.

All the resistor does is minimize RFI (static noise) generated by the plug. On multi cylinder machines with CDIs non resistor plugs could cause enough interference to harm the CDI...could...but doubtful. On the KDX the CDI is very simple and running a non-resistor plug will not damage it. You may , however, hear more static in your interphone system if you run one.

I just wanted to make sure I would fry the CDI. Thanks guys.

Oops, I thought I had that in the first post. It's an '89.

The stock plug is a B9ES, with no resistor. I never could keep a "9" heat range plug burned off. I had to switch to an "8" heat range. (the B8ES in question)
